A lot of people inaccurately ascribe Christianity to poverty. They are of the belief that people who believe in God or christians should not be wealthy. This can not be more far from the truth.
I do believe a hundred and one percent, that God is concerned about our physical and financial well-being. He want us to be in good health and he wants us to prosper ( 3 John 1:2). That being said, it is important to keep up a healthy balance. Your love for wealth or money should not outweigh your love for God. Your love for the finer things should not affect your decisions negatively neither should it make you do things that are ungodly all for the sake of getting rich quick.
As a christian, its important for me to know God’s word and God’s perfect will concerning my finances. There are lots of verses that give us wisdom about how to deal with money and the area of investing.
Once again, it should be made clear that we are not to put our focus and hopes in just riches. Whilst we are to trust in God and put our hopes in him, we should not neglect planning, saving, investing and diversifying our investments. Imagine living up until you are 95, how sad would it be though to live those years on earth without some level of comfort. How would you like to retire? Where do you want to retire? These are some of the questions we should ask ourselves. Let’s take a look at some bible verses about investing.
Proverbs 13:16 A wise man thinks ahead; but a fool doesn’t and even brags about it!
Proverbs 6:6-8 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
Proverbs 16:9 There is desirable oil in the dwelling of the wise but a foolish person devours all he has.
Do not spend everything you earn, save a little for the future.
Ecclesiastes 11:2 Invest in seven ventures, yes in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.
It’s important to have diverse streams of income and more important to diversify your investment holdings. Do not put all your eggs in one basket.
Proverbs 16:9 A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children…
Our thinking, should be geared towards building wealth to last generations. Stop thinking about yourself alone, expand your horizon, think bigger.
Proverbs 13:11 Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.
Grow your wealth strategically. We often hear about the lottery winner who loses everything in an instant. They don’t have the self-discipline to deny themselves ridiculous purchases. They haven’t learnt where to go for money-management advice and they don’t know how to deal with all the requests from friends and family for loans.
Luke 14:28-30 For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him saying, this man began to build and was not able to finish.
Don’t start without a plan and good advice. Learn the trends, plan ahead, save and diversify.
